St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital was the first pediatric cancer research center in the U.S. to open its own on-site GMP facility, Children’s GMP, LLC. Now St. Jude, a federally-designated Hemophilia Treatment Center, is working to bring a new hemophilia gene therapy to patients in countries where access to treatment is low and the standard of care is poor. The process development team is working on a novel process to manufacture and purify this new AAV-based gene therapy so the GMP team can manufacture sufficient quantities to meet the clinical research needs in these countries. If successful, this project has the potential to bring a cure to hemophilia B patients in these populations.
The Senior Scientist I will implement upstream process development and characterization experiments with minimal supervision, and maintain experimental details via electronic notebook; oversee day-to-day troubleshooting and maintenance of instrumentation; help to draft production batch records in close collaboration with the Quality Assurance Department of Children’s GMP, LLC; and lend support in cGMP manufacturing.
The ideal candidate has extensive experience in mammalian cell culture techniques. Experience with suspension cell culture and with stirred-tank bioreactors is strongly preferred. Experience with recombinant viral vectors and transient transfection is preferred. Bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences, Chemical Engineering or Bioprocessing or related field required
MS or Ph.D. preferred.
Eight (8) years of related experience with a BS. Four (4) years of related experience with a MS. No related experience required with a Ph.D. Experience in process development in a cGMP environment is preferred
